Public feedback isn't being forgotten as the process for two new wind farm projects in Chatham-Kent move ahead.
Both the Romney Wind Energy Centre and Otter Creek Wind Farm projects recently received necessary approvals.
David Thornton with EDF EN Canada Inc. representing the Romney-area wind farm says the project is moving into the development phase and getting public input will be key.
"There's going to be lots of opportunities for us to engage with several stakeholders, community members, certainly council and even the utility there [Entegrus] to make sure that we build the best project possible," says Thornton.
He adds greater public input will enhance the project.
"There's a lot of exciting things we want to achieve and we feel that this project was able to balance the need for low-cost renewables with the social assessments in the area," says Thornton. "What we most enjoyed was negotiating a community vibrancy agreement that will share some of the benefits of the project, which may not have existed in previous procurements."
The Romney wind project would cover a large stretch of land north of Wheatley including parts of Lakeshore. The Otter Creek project would see turbines installed north of Wallaceburg. Both projects are still likely years away from construction.
