Provincial police are reporting an increase in the number of fatal vehicle collisions in 2015, compared to the previous year.
The Ontario Provincial Police says 299 people died last year in collisions on OPP-patrolled roads, which is 11 more than in 2014. There was also four times as many crashes in which three people died.
Police say their data also shows driver behaviour contributed to 260 of the fatal motor vehicle collisions. These deaths are linked to what the OPP call the "Big Four" -- alcohol/drug use, inattentive driving, speeding and not wearing a seat belt. Police say these factors contribute to the majority of fatal crashes each year.
The OPP responded to a total of 69,469 vehicle collisions in 2015, compared to 75,644 in 2014.
