Put French's On The Table

Essex MPP Taras Natyshak is petitioning to change the ketchup supplier at Queen's Park.

He wants Heinz ketchup to be replaced by French's ketchup, which now uses Leamington tomatoes. But published reports say officials were already planning to switch from Heinz to French's. The move could take place as early as April.

The NDP member thinks there's appetite for the change after a Facebook post by an Orillia man backing the ketchup's use of Leamington tomatoes received wide-spread attention.

"Well I think there is given the fact that ever since the thread on Facebook went viral, you can't find a bottle of French's ketchup anywhere," says Natyshak. "I think it's indicative of the fact that people want to support local economies."

Natyshak feels it's an easy way to show Leamington support.

"This simple gesture of switching to French's ketchup in the Ontario legislature for members and visitors I think sends a signal that we should be supporting domestic production and supporting those who create jobs and sustain our agricultural footprint in the province," says Natyshak.
