The first four Syrian families who have sought refuge in Windsor are moving into their permanent homes today.
The families were among the first government-sponsored refugees to arrive in Windsor between December 29 and January 4. They came from urban centres in Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon after fleeing violence in Syria.

Haithm Abdullah and his wife, Fatin, and their two children are excited to move into their new home. Fatin Abdullah has high hopes for her children including the opportunity to continue their education, learn English and be safe in their new country. Fatin hopes to find eventually work.
BlackburnNews.com asked Haithm if he thinks about what he and his family left behind in Syria. He feels he's lost his home, and he's grateful to the Canadian government.
"Words can not explain my emotions," he responded through a translator. "It's such a beautiful thing."

Settlement and integration counsellor with the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County, Marcela Diaz says 360 individuals have arrived in Windsor-Essex so far. More are coming in February and March.
She says it's been a big adjustment for everyone involved.
"Both for them and for us," says Diaz. "I have been playing with the children, interchanging words. It has really been a fun and exciting experience."
The council is still looking for homes for other families. Diaz says anyone who has a vacant three, four or five bedroom apartment or house for rent should call Housing Information Services of Windsor and Essex County at 519-254-3450 or 211.
