If the night sky is clear the next few days it will provide ideal viewing for a comet.
Sky watcher Gary Boyle says the comet Catalina will be closest to Earth early Sunday morning but will be visible over the next few nights.
"It passed around the sun a few weeks ago and it is in the late night, early morning skies actually approaching the tail of the Big Dipper and is quite easily seen with simple binoculars," he says. "It looks like a fuzzy star, a bright fuzz and if you put any kind of camera on it, a DSLR for at least a few seconds you'll get the traditional iconic green colour of the comet."
Boyle says a smart phone likely doesn't have enough magnification to get a good image.
He says the Big Dipper gets higher in the sky as the night goes on an the comet is easier to see the higher it is.
Sunday morning is when Catalina will be the closest to earth but is still 284 times the distance to the moon.
