Great Year For CK Home Sales

The Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors says 2015 was the best year for home sales since 2007.

The association also reports home sales last month made it the third best December on record with 69 units sold, up 11.3% from a year ago.

Overall, 2015 saw 1,251 units sold that's a 4.7% increase from last year.

"December was not quite a record for home sales in the region but it was historically very strong, and in that way it was a fitting end to 2015 because the same can be said for the year as a whole," says Barb Phillips, president of the local realtors association.

She points to just over 400 properties left for sale on the market by the end of the year in Chatham-Kent as the lowest number since the late 1990s.

Phillips says the strong demand and low supply drove up home prices on average nearly 4% to $158,137 in 2015.
