An elderly Chatham-Kent woman is dead following a house fire in an area between Wallaceburg and Dresden.
Fire officials arrived to a working fire at the back of the home at 29796 Pond Rd., shortly after 9:30pm yesterday.
Investigators say the 94-year-old woman, who was the lone occupant, died as a result of the blaze. She was transported to Sydenham District Hospital where life-saving measures were unsuccessful.
Damage is pegged at $150,000, while crews say they were able to save $100,000 in property.
Both the Ontario Fire Marshall and Chatham-Kent police are investigating the cause.
