Hospice Opening Pushed Back

Officials have been forced to delay the grand opening of the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

After planning to open before the end of 2015, organizers realized in the summer they underestimated their goal. Despite this, Director of Development Jodi Maroney says construction is progressing well.

"They just recently asphalted the parking lot and put the curbs in. While that's happening they're also working on the inside, finishing up the wiring and have started drywalling."

Maroney feels the delay is worth staying closed for a few extra months.

"We only have one chance to do it right, so we're going to take the opportunity to do that. We want to make sure the first person served gets the same level of treatment as the hundredth person served."

Officials are now planning to open the hospice in spring 2016.

The hospice has also announced its raised $287,000 with its Hope Chest campaign, to fund the purchase of equipment for the building. That total exceeds their goal of $200,000.
