After the first few sessions of parliament under the new Liberal government, Dave Van Kesteren says he is starting to adjust to life on the opposition benches.
The Chatham-Kent Leamington Conservative MP says there are some big differences.
"When you are government, you have direct access to the ministers. It's not hard to make a contact, that can be done before question period, you can corner the minister," he says adding he will still be doing committee work. "Often times the things that we suggest won't be part of the government policy and so then it is our duty to embarrass the government and shine the light on the government."
He also believes the climate agreement will be a major focus for the Canadian government and it potentially could have major impacts for Alberta and Ontario because of changing fuel prices.
Van Kesteren says it will be interesting to see how that unfolds remembering that the changes could directly affect a lot of jobs.
