OPP Focus On Commercial Vehicle Safety

OPP officers are encouraging drivers to keep an eye out for commercial vehicles with suspected defects.

Rob Enzlin with the OPP in Chatham-Kent says there can be major issues that will force the vehicle off the road.

"Brake lights, signal lamps, major brake components, tire tread, tire conditions of a major nature," says Enzlin. "Some things are not necessarily out of service, but they are a defect."

Inspections may turn up issues that won't necessarily force the vehicle off the road right away.

"If it is of a minor nature [the driver] can drive it for that day, however the following day for service it has to be repaired prior to going out again," says Enzlin.

Enzlin adds commercial vehicles require daily inspections.

The OPP recently held a training blitz helping officers to keep roadways safe.
