A new NBLC season is set to get underway tonight, and the Windsor Express are hoping for a third straight championship.
They have quite a hill to climb, however, with some key players either gone or injured to start the year. Most noteably, last season's league MVP Quinnel Brown has opted to sign with Uruguayan team Larre Borges. But, Vice President of Basketball Operations Bill Jones says there are no hard feelings.
"He had an opportunity to take his career and talent overseas, and maybe make a little more money," says Jones. "So that's what we do, we give these guys a platform and opportunity to succeed."
Meanwhile, Canadian player Kevin Loiselle has signed with London, while Center DeAndre Thomas is out with a knee injury. Jones can't set any timelines for his return just yet.
"We'll get an opportunity to evaluate his knee, and maybe hold him around to get some good rehab. So maybe we can have him available towards the middle or end of the season," says Jones.
The Windsor Express play their home opener at the WFCU Centre against the Orangeville A's. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
