Goodfellows Work Not Over

The Chatham Goodfellows distribution of toys was carried out last night and today volunteers are packing and delivering food baskets.

Tim Mifflin from the Goodfellows board says more than 1,400 baskets are being packed but they job isn't over at that point because there may be last minute demands.

"If somebody has a fire between now and Christmas it is just not conceivable for them to get food and toys for their families so we step up."

He adds the Goodfellows have also replaced toys stolen in pre-Christmas break-ins and would do so again if needed.

"A lot of things happen between now and Christmas, all the board of directors always have one or two of their own turkeys in their freezers and are ready to deploy those if we need them."

Mifflin says the Goodfellows have also help replace toys stolen in break-ins and would do so again if needed. He says the cost of food is up this year and believes it will cost about $150,000 to provide the food baskets. He isn't sure how much has been raised because not all of the corporate donations have been counted.
