Flu Shot Numbers Hold Up

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit's decision to not hold public influenza vaccination clinics in the municipality doesn't seem to have prevented anyone from getting the shot.

Public Health nurse Brent Goudreau says the agency still tracks the number of doses and — if anything — there may have been an increase this year.

"We receive all of the publicly funded flu vaccine from the ministry, it all goes through our doors here," he says. "So far we have received 37,000 doses and we have shipped over 30,000 of those doses out to our providers."

The health unit didn't offer clinics this year because there are a lot of other options for getting the flu shot, including doctors and pharmacies. Goudreau says the decision freed up staff to work on other initiatives.
