One person is dead and two people are in hospital after a collision on Hwy. 401 in West Lorne.
The Ontario Provincial Police says on Saturday around 1:53pm, a blue Buick car travelling east on the highway, left the road and crossed the median for unknown reasons. The car struck a black Ford pickup truck that was traveling in the westbound lanes.
The driver and lone occupant of the Buick, a 73-year-old man from Oakville, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The occupants of the Ford, both from Fonthill, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. The 70-year-old male driver has been airlifted to hospital. An adult female passenger has been taken to hospital by ambulance.
The west and eastbound lanes of Hwy. 401 were closed between Graham Rd. and Currie Rd. for several hours. The eastbound lanes were reopened around 5:45pm, while the westbound lanes were reopened around 10pm.
A police investigation is ongoing.
