Digital journalism students at the University of Windsor are getting hands on experience with going live on location thanks to some new equipment.
The mobile production unit was purchased with a $30,000 donation from the Walter J. Blackburn Foundation.
Chair of the Digital Journalism program Blake Roberts says students will use the equipment to replicate what happens in news rooms across the county.
"They'll have skills cutting audio and video live on location from this. But they'll also have developed the confidence in doing live presentation which of course is an invaluable skill," says Roberts. (Full audio interview with Blake Roberts is below)

The mobile production unit gives students the opportunity to produce a broadcast from a remote location to the program's website The30.ca.
