Fatal Train-Vehicle Collision in Dawn-Euphemia

Police, fire crews and EMS responded to a fatal collision between a freight train and a passenger vehicle Monday in Dawn-Euphemia Twp.

The crash happened around 12:40pm on Euphemia Line at Cairo Rd.

Chatham-Kent Police were initially dispatched along with Canadian Pacific Police but Lambton OPP have since taken over the investigation.

Constable Travis Parsons says the point of impact occurred in Lambton jurisdiction.

He says the lone occupant of the motor vehicle was transported to hospital by EMS but succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Constable Parsons says Cairo Rd. at Euphemia Line was closed until further notice for investigative purposes. The general public was being asked to try to avoid the area for the safety of emergency responders.

Anyone with information surrounding the crash is asked to contact OPP.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
