Check Detectors For Co Awareness

It's not just smoke alarms that need checking now that they clocks have been changed for the fall.

Chatham-Kent Fire Department public educator Whitney Burke says it's carbon monoxide awareness week and you should check detectors to make sure they are working.

"We just changed the clocks which is normally the time we remind residents to 'change their clocks change their battery' so we want you to do that in you smoke alarm but in your Co alarm as well," she says. "The problem arises when something goes wrong, an appliance malfunctions, vents are clogged, debris blocks a chimney or exhaust seeps into the home from the garage."

Ontario law states you must have a carbon monoxide detector on every floor that has a sleeping area.
