Lake St. Clair Fishery Sustainable

It is one of the most popular fishing locations anywhere but Lake St. Clair's fish populations are very sustainable.

Michigan fisheries research biologist Mike Thomas says there doesn't seem to be any threat of over fishing .

"The fish community in Lake St. Clair is very diverse, very really good abundant populations of desirable sport fish like, small mouth bass, muskellunge , yellow perch, walleye, they are doing quite well," he says. "Water quality in the lake is in really good shape."

The number of walleye in the lake is down from the 1980s but Thomas says that is because the water is clearer now than the fish prefer.

He also says the numbers have stabilized and are no longer dropping.
