County Warden Tom Bain, a member of the Lakeshore Horse Raceway Group, says racing this season in Leamington couldn't have gone better.
The track's 14-date season wrapped up Sunday.
"We had set a goal of between $15,000 and $20,000 to bet. With our 14 days in total we bet over $20,000 on average every Sunday there."
Bain feels the good turnout should make it easier to secure dates next season with the Ontario Racing Commission.
They pay attention to attendance, according to Bain, but "more importantly what kind of turn out do you have in the betting."
He says the only track to beat their per capita wagering stats in Ontario was Woodbine in Toronto.
