A six-year-old girl is expected to survive after being stabbed, allegedly by her own mother.
London police were called to 114 Arbour Glen Cres. in northeast London around 9am Thursday. When they arrived, they found a young girl suffering from stab wounds to her abdomen. The child was rushed to hospital where she is listed in critical condition.
The girl's mother was arrested at the scene and is now charged with one count of attempted murder. She is being held in police custody pending a court appearance.
"I seen a lady come out, she was covered in blood in her housecoat. Then they (paramedics) came out and we saw the young girl...She had a mask on, she had heart support on, she was hooked up to different things," says Brenda Roberts, whose daughter lives in the building. "She was just walking like nothing happened, in a bloody housecoat. She had her handcuffs on and into the police car she went."
Police are still investigating.
It's the second time this year a young child has been stabbed in London. In May, a 5-year-old girl was stabbed at a home on Applegreen Grove in the Westmount area. Her father faces trial in connection with her stabbing.
