As Transport Canada continues to investigate the Ambassador Bridge Friday, one area resident and business owner is fed up with its state of disrepair.
Mike Cardinal rents to university students and says the bridge company has ruined the neighbourhood.
"This arrogant billionaire comes and just doesn't take care of his property," says Cardinal. "He wants to build a new bridge, he can't even take care of the one he has."
Transport Canada says it inspected the bridge in June and found "elements requiring repair."
The federal agency refuses to say what those repairs were and if they have been fixed unless an Access to Information request is made, which may take some time.
On Thursday, Matt Moroun with the bridge company said the crossing isn't crumbling and the city is making this political. Mayor Drew Dilkens fired back, displaying large pieces of concrete that fell, which is why some streets underneath are closed.
Until things are fixed, Cardinal says his business and the entire Sandwich community will suffer.
"This year alone at least two dozen parents coming through with their students did a U-turn," he says. "We called them up, say 'hey, you're late for your tour, come on in.' They say 'no bleep bleep way my daughter's going to live in a slum.'"
Without divulging how, Cardinal says he and others will find a way to affect the Ambassador Bridge.
"We've done everything we can through the legitimate means of the government. Fix the damn bridge," he says.
