Voter Turnout Jumps In Advance Polls

Elections Canada is estimating 1.2-million voters turned up at advance polling stations across Canada on Thanksgiving Day.

Preliminary figures show 3.6-million electors in all cast a ballot over the four days advance polling stations were set up — a 71% increase in voter turnout compared to the electors voting in advance polling in the 2011 federal election. However, Elections Canada notes the 2011 election had one less day for advance voting.

In the Windsor area ridings, Elections Canada estimates 9,498 voters cast a ballot at advance polls in Windsor-Tecumseh while 6,306 voters marked their 'X' in Windsor West. An estimated 11,903 electors voted in advance polls in Essex.

The Chatham-Kent-Leamington riding saw an estimated 10,278 electors vote in advance polls while 10,453 voters turned up to vote in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex and 9,441 in Sarnia-Lambton.

Election day is October 19.
