CK Blooms In Landscaping Contest

Chatham-Kent is seeing overall better scores and a special title following this year's Communities In Bloom contest.

The municipality has earned a "5 Blooms" or bronze rating. In terms of numbers, Chatham-Kent improved its score from 83.3 out of 100 in 2014, to 85.7 in this year's international competition.

CK is also considered the most polinator friendly community in Canada, a new distinction they earned this year.

Co-ordinator Monica Robertson says there were plenty of community groups that made this possible.

"A lot of acres have planted a substantial amount of gardens that have native species for area pollinators, like bees and butterflies," she says.

Communities In Bloom is a civic pride and beautification initiative that sees judges travel across the world to gauge communities' efforts in these categories.

This year Chatham-Kent also received an honorable mention for their "prairie restoration projects."
