Shootings Not Scaring Windsorites

A pair of shootings in the city this week and the high profile mass shooting in Oregon on Thursday aren't sending Windsorites into hiding.

People downtown tell BlackburnNews.com gun violence isn't a big concern.

"No, we have pretty strict controls for gun violence," says Ryan Solcz, who has previously lived in BC. "The crime rate in Windsor is so low compared to other cities in Canada. That type of stuff happens all the time in Vancouver, even Victoria."

Despite the recent spat of shootings, Wasem Darwesh doesn't have any issues in being in the city.

"I feel good here because I've already been working in the downtown here for a year and it's good," says Darwesh. "I think it's safe."

Kathy MecEachern says the shootings won't change how she goes about her day.

"I've just made the choice to not let other people's choices take my freedom away," says MecEachern.

Windsor police have made an arrest in connection with the most recent shooting while identifying a suspect in the week's earlier shooting.
