Annual Harvest Run Draws Hundreds

The United Way of Chatham-Kent's 5th annual Harvest Run went off without a hitch.

Acting Director of Resource Development for the C-K United Way's Tom Slager says about 230 people took part in the races Sunday morning, raising an estimated $20,000.

"When you're talking just a morning-of event, it's an amazing impact for the community," says Slager. "It's the runners, but it's also a parternship with numerous corporate sponsors -- from small ones all the way up to really big ones."

A wide range of participants showed up for the annual run with different goals in mind.

"There is a competition among some of the runners, while others are just out to have a good time," says Slager. "We even had one runner who had never run a half-marathon before and it was just a question of, 'Can I do it?'"

Slager says the money they raised at the event will go toward supporting United Way programs.
