Monarch Festival At Rondeau

Monarch butterflies are getting ready to head south for the winter.

"A lot of people know that they do migrate, but what's kind of cool it's actually three or four generations over the summer until they migrate," says Pilar Manorome, a natural heritage educator at Rondeau Provincial Park. "So it's actually , the ones that go down to Mexico, it could be their great-great-great-great-great grandchildren that make the next trip."

Officials at Rondeau Provincial Park are celebrating the journey with their 12th annual Monarch Migration Festival today.

"We've got lots of stuff going on," says Manorome. "Not only do we do adopt-a-monarch and you can watch some tagging demonstrations, we also have face-painting and crafts, and an artisan vendor sale, and BBQ. You can't really go wrong, it's a full day of fun activities."

The event runs from 10am-4pm.
