Nurses Talks Take Next Step

Contract negotiations for the public health unit in Chatham-Kent will move to mediation after a conciliation meeting earlier this week.

General Manager Health and Family Services April Rietdyk says that will happen in October and until then there will be no service interruption.

"We are proceeding from conciliation to mediation and we are very hopeful and confident a settlement will be reached through that process," she says. "Our nurses are a profession group, within our community, that they will continue to provide reliable safe care of all of our mandatory programs and services to all of the citizens in Chatham-Kent."

The 41 public health nurses in Chatham-Kent have been without a contract since the end of 2013.
