Conciliation talks are underway for a group of Chatham-Kent public health nurses.
According to their union, the 41 nurses have been without a contract since December 31, 2013. The skilled nurses, nurse practitioners, and public health nurses are represented by the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA).
President Linda Haslam-Stroud says they continue to be among the lowest paid public health nurses in the entire province, and calls it shameful in a community where the rates of health challenges is so high.
She says the nurses monitor infectious diseases, promote healthy living, and maintain wellness of individuals, families, and communities.
