History Conference Wraps On Civil War

The community of North Buxton is marking the Labour Day Weekend with it's 92nd Homecoming and kicking it off with its final history conference.

Curator of the Buxton National Historic Site Shannon Prince says today's conference focuses on the U.S. Civil War.

"It's dedicated to our Civil War vets that fought in the Civil War, it coincides with the 150th anniversary of the end of the war so it is really a timely event," she says. "Well over 50,000 Canadians (fought in the war) and it was against the law for Canadians to fight because we were under the British Crown and under the British Foreign Enlistment Act you weren't allowed to go back and fight." As well as a number of speakers on the war several Civil War reenactment groups will be taking part.
