Tree-Cutting Strategy Working

The president of the KFA is pleased with how Chatham-Kent's tree-cutting strategy is minimizing tree removal.

Ron Faubert estimates around 300 acres were removed in 2013, but this year, there were only 30 acres cleared.

Faubert says tree replanting is also on the rise.

"There's various large projects, including some up to 150 acres, in the works," he says. "So we'll be seeing a lot of tree replanting going on in the municipality."

Faubert adds 74 acres have already been planted, they expect that number to go up to 100 by the end of the year. He says the government is more likely to give up money for grants if it sees both urban and rural communities working together within the strategy.
