Chatham-Kent police are reminding local residents to lock their vehicles, especially their trucks.
"In the past two months, we've had seven trucks stolen from the Wallaceburg-area," says Constable Renee Cowell, adding about half of the vehicles were unlocked at the time. "It appears GMC trucks are being targeted as four of them have been stolen as compared to two Chevrolets and one Dodge."
So far, officers have tracked down and recovered four of the seven trucks that were stolen, but they're still working to determine if there are any patterns or common links.
"They were recovered out of town," says Cowell. "One was recovered in Windsor, one was recovered in London, and one was recovered on Walpole Island."
Cowell says criminals will look for easy targets first, so she's advising you to lock your vehicle, even if it's parked in your driveway. She's also suggesting that you take your valuables and personal documentation out of your vehicle in case it does get stolen.
