More Roads For Local ATV's

Ward 3 Councillor Steve Pinsonneault is looking to make Chatham-Kent more ATV friendly, with a motion coming to council tonight.

Engineering Technologist with the municipality Mark Ceppi says newly updated provincial rules are allowing increased on-road access for ATV's.

"The new regulations permit three new classes of off-road vehicle," says Ceppi.

Pointing to the new provincial rules, Pinsonneault feels the local bylaw banning ATV's from municipal roads should be changed. Currently the Chatham-Kent bylaw only allows ATV use from November 1 to March 31 on roadways mainly in Mitchell's Bay, Shrewsbury, Erieau and Rondeau.

"It's mainly to facilitate the ice-fishing season so that the fisherman can use their ATV's to drive out onto the lake," says Ceppi.

Council meets at 6pm.
