Chatham-Kent OPP haven't laid any charges in connection with the incidents that caused multiple slowdowns on the westbound Hwy. 401 in between Chatham and Tilbury Tuesday.
Officers say the first incident took place just before 8:30am Tuesday when the driver of a Jeep hit the brakes to avoid a collision with a tractor trailer that made a sudden lane change. A Dodge Caravan hit the Jeep from behind, causing long traffic delays near the Tilbury On Route Service Centre.
Then, shortly after 1pm, OPP officers were called out to the same area for a wide load escort that was stuck in the westbound lane. It took about two hours for that vehicle to be safely removed.
A few hours later, officers were called out to the same area of the highway to respond to a tractor trailer that had broken down in the westbound lane, which resulted in more delays.
Chatham-Kent OPP are urging motorists to be patient and exercise caution while they are travelling through the construction zone, adding that the work is expected to continue through the end of November.
