Not Much Fanfare For New Townhomes

A contentious project on Talbot St. E in Leamington is over its first hurdle.

The proposed 32-unit townhouse style development has the needed zoning changes, but still needs more approvals before a shovel goes in the ground.

Mayor John Paterson says council isn't the biggest fan of the project as it stands.

"We're uncomfortable and I think that was pretty evident by the comments made tonight. It's a lot of housing units jammed into a very small area," says Paterson.

The mayor knows residents in the area don't really like the project either.

"They're not, although I heard some smoothing of the attitudes which is good," says Paterson. "This is really different than most things that we've had to deal with, so I guess we're just treading very lightly."

A site-plan for the project still needs approval, dealing with issues like on-site garbage and recycling facilities, landscaping and signage.
