Mulcair Backing Coalition Talk

Federal NDP Leader Tom Mulcair isn't backing away from comments made by one of his high-level MP's suggesting a coalition government with the Liberals isn't out of the question for his party.

Mulcair says the NDP will do whatever it can to make sure this is the last year in government for Stephen Harper's Conservatives.

"We have been willing to work with the Liberals," says Mulcair. "Back in 2008 they turned up their noses on their own siganture and the result was seven more years of Stephen Harper and every time I've raised the issue, they've slammed the door on it."

The NDP leader adds it's time to kick the Tories out of government.

"We were willing to go so far as to make Stephan Dion prime minister because we thought it was that important to replace Stephen Harper's Conservatives. We knew the kind of harm that they could do, and now my part of my job is to get an NDP government elected so we can start reversing the damage caused by Stephen Harper's Conservatives."

Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau responded to the comments saying, "A formal coalition is out of the question."
