PUC Looks To Save Energy

In an effort to make Chatham`s sewage treatment plant more energy efficient, CK`s Public Utilities Commission is purchasing a new High Speed Turbo Blower.

The blower provides oxygen to the biological section of the sewage treatment plant, helping it to clean and treat the water.

Area Manager Tim Sunderland says the old blower works fine, but uses up lots of energy. "The turbo blower will save power and reduce hydro costs over time. We expect cost savings to average about $60,000 a year."

The new blower costs $272,000, coming from general CK reserves.
