Ridgetown Native Sets Sights On Olympics

With two Pan Am Games medals in his pocket, a Ridgetown native is setting his sights on the Olympics.

Chris von Martels and his horse Zilverstar won silver in team dressage and bronze in individual dressage in the last week.

"I had an absolute wonderful time," says von Martels. "It's been a life long dream for me to stand on the podium for Canada and I certainly have many more goals for the future but this has been a great start for my big career." He says it was also great to win the medals in front of family who made the trek from Ridgetown to watch him compete.

The 32-year-old says he'll now compete on the pro tour in Europe and the U.S., trying to accumulate enough points to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
