Entegrus is teaming up with innovator Varentec to make sure local residents get consistent levels of power delivered to their homes and businesses.
System planning engineer Matthew Meloche says they're using technology developed by Varentec for a pilot project in Erieau aimed at reducing voltage fluctuations.
"It's right out at the far end of our lines, so that's the area that is most vulnerable to those voltage variations," says Meloche. "There's a little bit of wind and solar power on those lines, and that can contribute to those variations as well."
The project also follows up on a couple of concerns from a customer in the Erieau area about a year and a half ago.
"Although the power we were delivering was within our required specification, it was moving around a fair bit," says Meloche. "So that raised the profile of the town and led us to apply to the Ministry of Energy to participate in this study."
Meloche says the improvements should help smooth out any "bumps" in the electrical system.
