The first North American professional women's hockey league to pay its players is holding tryouts in Windsor today, at the WFCU Centre at 4:45pm.
NWHL Founder and Commissioner Dani Rylan says they're looking for the best women's hockey players in the world. "If they (players) can't make the camp this afternoon, we do have an international camp in Boston at the end of July. It starts July 23, and goes through to July 27. We have players flying in from Russia, Germany, even as far as Japan for that camp."
The NWHL will feature four teams in its inaugural season, which starts this October. Those franchises are based in Boston, Buffalo, Connecticut and New York.
Rylan says the league's been holding selection camps in major US markets, and Windsor is the last stop on its Canadian tour, which included camps in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.
