Cutting Video Troubles School Officials

A video that appears to show a Chatham student cutting another student's arm has the attention of police and the local public school board.

Lambton Kent District School Board Director of Education Jim Costello says it's believed to have taken place in Chatham at the Victoria Park Campus of an alternative program within the board.

"We've seen the video, it was posted onto social media," says Costello. "Why someone would do that is beyond me -- but then to also record it and put it up onto the Internet is not particularly helpful for either of the students involved."

Costello says the Victoria Park Campus offers an alternative program for students who often don't fit in well with the regular school programs. He says the board has protocols in place for these types of situations.

"We co-operate with the police and we obviously spend time with the students also counselling them, trying to figure out why would a student take an action that would harm someone else like that," says Costello. "In any case like that, there is strong counselling and strong support provided."

Chatham-Kent police are investigating the incident, but at this point, there is no word on possible charges.

A video of the incident recently appeared on the "Chatham Swappers Rant and Rave !!" group's Facebook page.
