CK Could Benefit From California Drought

Chatham-Kent Councillor Leon LeClair says rising vegetable prices due to drought in California could provide an economic benefit for local farmers capable of growing those crops.

"Chatham-Kent, we have an abundance of water, they're great for irrigation purposes, and great land, and we can grow vegetables," says LeClair. "The dollar at 80 cents right now is an opportunity to take advantage of the US market."

He's suggesting a symposium to discuss the potential with municipal officials and University of Guelph experts.

He also wants to make sure the forum happens in Chatham-Kent and that any ideas that come from it are developed here.
