Area Parks Getting Facelift

Chatham-Kent is spending $203,300 on upgrades to playgrounds in area parks this year.

Among the list of renewals are two completely new playground units at Memorial Park in Blenheim and Colwell Park in Wallaceburg. Other projects include repaving and replacing equipment like teeter totters and slides.

Parks Supervisor Deb Veccia says the average lifecycle for playground equipment is benchmarked at 15 years. "Each year, we try and look at what our needs are, what has aged, and what is no longer compliant. Then we set our priorities and usually spend between $200-$300,000.

The replacement of a full playground unit usually comes in around $61,100.
