Travel Awareness Week Kicks Off

Ontario Travel bets you could use a refresher on the attractions available in your own backyard.

Officials at tourism centres across the province are kicking off Tourism Awareness Week with a series of events to promote summer destinations.

Promotions Officer Kevin Forgette says residents in southwestern Ontario are very lucky. "The idea is to remind people who live in the area that we have all these wine tours. We have all these attractions right here. You don't have to do a six-hour drive just to enjoy Ontario."

Forgette also reminds residents tourism centres aren't just for people visiting the region. "Just sort of that reminder to say we're here for you. We're here to plan what you want to do in Ontario, and it's absolutely free. We'll even give you a road map at no cost."

Tourism generates approximately $28-billion in economic activity provincially, and $562-million locally.
