Some Chatham students are putting the finishing touches on a race car for a competition at Delaware Speedway this weekend.

Grade 10 John McGregor Secondary School student Harley Hornick is pit crew leader for the technology club and says they started with a standard Chrysler Intrepid.

"It's missing all the interior, it's got a lot of added safety features," she says.

"We gutted it out, took out the dashboard, seats, and all the carpet, stereos and everything, then we moved into the engine and took out the air conditioning compressor to make it a bit lighter," adds Roper Beaumont.

The students designed and welded into place a safety cage inside the vehicle. The race is Saturday at 2pm.
