The province is learning more about sexual violence and harassment in order to table recommendations on how to prevent it and help victims.
Public hearings have been held by the Select Committee on Sexual Violence and Harassment in northern Ontario, and are now being held in Windsor, Kitchener-Waterloo, Kingston and Ottawa this week.
Chair of the committee Daiene Vernile says no matter where they go, there are many similar stories. "Women, often times, are reluctant to come forward and report what's been done to them. They're concerned that they're going to be re-traumatized and re-victimized by the criminal justice system. They're concerned that they're going to be scrutinized by the media, and they're concerned about embarrassment and further harassment."
Recommendations are expected to be tabled by the committee near the end of June, with a more detailed report coming out on December 10.
