Prescriptions Properly Dropped Off

The Chatham-Kent Police Service has collected more than 100 lbs of unwanted prescription drugs.

During a prescription drug drop-off day, held at three locations over the weekend, police and volunteers took in 47 kg (103 lbs) of drugs including opiates, amphetamines, and barbiturates; all of them potentially dangerous and all of them linked to drug abuse.

A total of 48 people handed in the drugs.

Police say residents can continue to get rid of unwanted or unused prescription drugs at a pharmacy for safe disposal, but say not to flush them down toilets or sinks to keep them out of waterways.
