Hazardous Cleanup Agreement Approved

Chatham-Kent Council has given the go-ahead for a hazardous waste partnership with emergency crews in Windsor.

In the event of a hazardous spill or accident, registered clean-up agencies and hazmat experts will be called in to assist Chatham-Kent officials.

Assistant Chief Bob Davidson says once CK police and safety crews assess spills or incidents, they'll now have the chance to call for backup. "People that really know how to deal with hazardous material incidents should an emergency occur. So while the incident happens we need that expertise on-site to work under us, to make sure the hazardous material is addressed and mitigated."

Davidson says a similar partnership with Sarnia would also be beneficial, but adds formal talks haven't started yet.
