Teaming Up To Handle Hazards

Emergency officials are taking precautions against potential hazardous material incidents.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services is looking for Chatham-Kent Council's endorsement of an agreement with emergency crews in Windsor and Sarnia. With about 4,800 railcar loads of hazardous material travelling through Chatham-Kent each year, they want to ensure resources will be available if an accident occurs.

The service agreement would be under a "pay-as-you-go" method, with MTO rates currently set at $410/hour per vehicle.

Staff cite the Veolia explosion back in October as an example of how spills and accidents with hazardous material can cause problems for residents.
