Lions' Top Draft Needs (AUDIO)

One of the most watched football events of the year kicks-off tonight.

The 1st Round of the NFL Draft gets underway in prime time at 8pm. The Detroit Lions have the 23rd overall pick after an 11-5 season, and a loss to the Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs.

Senior writer at DetroitLions.com Tim Twentyman sees the Lions going with either an offensive or defensive lineman. "You know you've got guys like La'el Collins, I see him as kind of a plug-and-play kind of player, he can play left guard, he can play right tackle," says Twentyman. "I think the same thing for a guy like Cameron Erving who could be there for the Lions as well. I consider him really the second best offensive lineman in this draft."

Other possible targets include running back Todd Gurley, and defensive tackle Danny Shelton, if they're still on the board when it's the Lions' turn to make a selection. And Twentyman says don't be surprised if Detroit trades the pick and moves back in the draft to acquire more picks, depending on who's left on the board at 23.

The Lions lost defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, and C.J. Mosley to free agency. The team also didn't re-sign left guard Rob Sims, leaving them without an interior lineman on the left side of their roster.
