"I thought one of my friends was playing a joke on me," says Brandon Marion, one of the ten workers at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare who will share $5.8-million after winning LOTTO 6/49.
Deborah Mailloux says she usually checks the numbers, selected by the group, a week after the draw when she buys tickets for the next draw. "I was told I should check the numbers sooner because the winner was from Windsor," she says she asked her husband to check the group ticket when she got home. "Suddenly he said, 'oh my God, you got all six numbers. You won!'"
The jackpot for $35-million was split six ways across the country.
Eight workers from Windsor and two from Amherstburg work in the facilities department have been playing the lottery together for 25 years. Each has their plans for the windfall, but also plan to honour a former colleague who died of cancer by contributing to a memorial garden at the hospital. Each group member will take home $582,798.
The winning ticket was bought at M & S Convenience on Felix Ave. in Windsor.
